Here’s Why Your Baby Is Born With Head Full Of Hair

Did your little wonder come into the world as bald as a cue ball or was that tiny little head full of hair? Do you remember that day? There are some babies born quite bald and the others the opposite – with a head full of hair. Do you know why?

Before you burn your brain to know why your baby is either too bald or has too much hair, this is what you need to know.

Your baby’s hair type and color are determined by your genes and ethnicity. Chances of your baby having sleeky-straight-blonde hair are probably because you are having one too! If your partner has thin, curly hair and you have Rapunzel-like straight, thick hair, your baby will either take your partner’s or your genes to get the luscious locks.

It is highly likely that this is true with most babies, but there are some exceptions as well. Don’t be surprised if your baby is blonde and you are not! Apparently, regardless of how your baby’s hair is at birth, it is going to change. Newborns shed hair in the first six months after birth. It is normal. They regrow the hair around 9-12 months of age. The new hair which regrows will be distinctly different from the old. Your newborn’s red, curly lovely hair might get replaced by a blonde.

If you are pregnant and guessing how your baby would be – bald or perfectly coiffed, there is a pregnancy myth to know. It says a pregnant woman with a lot of heartburn tends to give birth to babies with a whole mess of gorgeous hair. Although some believe it is a myth, according to a 2006 study, correlation between heartburn severity during pregnancy and newborn hair does exist.1
