Peppermint tea is known for its ability to relieve symptoms of cold and flu. It can alleviate menstrual cramps, keep liver in top shape and cancer at bay. Having peppermint tea is excellent for digestion. Though other types of tea, including green tea, are not recommended during pregnancy, peppermint tea is good during this period, especially if you are suffering from gastric refluxes. Have it in moderation so it doesn’t affect the health adversely.
Drinking excessive peppermint tea can cause skin irritation, flushing, headache, irritated mucous membrane and heartburn. Menthol in peppermint can cause throat closure in small children and adults. Other side effects include heartburn, mouth sores, throat closing, skin irritations like inflammation, hives or rashes or breathing problems.
Pick peppermint leaves that are not bruised and dry them. Crush them lightly until they start to release their natural oils, but don't break them. Add it to a glass jar, cover with a carrier oil like almond oil. Place it for 24 hrs in a warm place out of direct sunlight. Strain it with a cheesecloth and repeat the process 2-3 times until it reaches the desired strength.
