Brushing, flossing, and using a mouthwash can keep your teeth clean. Ayurveda recommends oil pulling and the use of herbal chewing sticks for dental health. Drinking sufficient water, having dairy products, fruits and vegetables, protein, and nuts can strengthen your teeth. But smoking, sugar, hard foods like hard candy, acidic foods like citrus juices, sticky foods like dry fruits, and alcohol can damage them.
It is easy to whiten teeth at home with some naturally available substances. Baking soda is one such which is known for its cleansing properties. Diluted hydrogen peroxide, activated charcoal and apple cider vinegar too promise pearly whites. You could try the Ayurvedic method of oil pulling or munch on strawberries or even clean your teeth with banana rind for quick result.
Consuming too many dates could lead to an increase in blood sugar levels and induce weight gain. In addition to this, it could also lead to stomach cramps, gas, and diarrhea. Besides these, dates could trigger allergic symptoms and cause tooth decay. They are also unhealthy for infants.
Nocturnal teeth grinding or sleep bruxism affects around 20% kids below 11 and 8% adults. Since stress causes most cases of teeth grinding, try yoga, therapy, and relaxation techniques for relief. Avoid tobacco, alcohol, and caffeine, all of which affect sleep quality, making bruxism likely. Use customized mouth guards to keep the jaw in place. Or try hypnotherapy.
Made exclusively with vegetable oils, castile soap is oft-touted for its versatility and eco-friendliness. It not only offers you a nourishing body wash from head-to-toe, but can be a fuss-free replacement for your laundry and dish soap too. You can also use castile soap (unscented!) as a pet shampoo, and to help clear congestion when mixed to a bowl of steamy hot water.
Brush your teeth twice a day and floss more often to prevent bad breath and buildup of plaque. Shower daily and wear clean clothes, socks, and undergarments. Clean up your privates well and keep them dry. Clean your nails daily and trim them every week. Remove makeup before bed and clean your makeup brushes frequently. Use a fresh blade to shave, not a dull or old blade. And wash your hands after every toilet visit.

Mix some turmeric powder with water to make a paste. Then apply this to the affected tooth using a cotton swab. Equally soothing will be an application of a tsp of asafoetida powder fried in butter, fresh garlic juice, or clove oil. Other numbing options include gargling with a mix of 1tsp dried crushed sage, 1t salt in water or swishing warm salt water or black tea for a while.
Avoid feeding your child with spicy, acidic, and scratchy or hard foods like nuts, potato chips, which can aggravate tender mouth sores. Be sure your child uses toothbrushes with soft bristles and avoids toothpastes or mouthwashes which contain sodium lauryl sulfate. For a quick fix, rinse the mouth every 2 to 3 hrs with salt water or apply a wet tea bag to the sore for relief.
Increase your intake of alkaline foods (cruciferous and green leafy vegetables, cayenne peppers, garlic) to compensate for the erosive acidic nature of digestive acids. Cut back on sweets, candy, fruit juice, soda, and foods with hidden sugars like processed and packaged snacks. Try ayurvedic remedies like mustard, amla, licorice to keep a cavity from getting worse!
