Wake up early to get in some morning sunshine. Try magic potions like warm lemon water or an infusion of ginger, holy basil, pepper, mint, and fennel seed powder to start off your day. Massage your body with warm sesame oil before bathing. Eat light and comforting foods like moong dal khichdi. Instill 2 drops of lukewarm cow's ghee in both nostrils at bedtime.
Very cliched yet true – “Ayurveda is not just a medical science but the science of life.” In fact, it’s more a way of life than science. You can achieve important aspects by living an ayurvedic lifestyle – dharma (duties), artha (money and luxuries), kama (sex and regeneration) and moksha (blissful ending of our soul).
I am listing out some simple ayurvedic lifestyle adaptations which can be easily imbibed in our lives and get benefited abundantly.
10 Tips That Will Change Your Life Forever
1. Wake Up Early
Waking up as early as 6 am leads to a better physical and cognitive functioning. It is a very good habit which can strengthen or weaken our health.
2. Use Nasal Drops
Our head is the most superior part of the body. The intricacy and complexity of its functions are still being researched. Yet a very simple way to keep the pathways in the brain clear is nasya. Instill 2 drops of lukewarm cow’s ghee/coconut oil/almond oil in both nostrils at bedtime or immediately after waking up in the morning.
3. Cleanse Your Gut
Gut is considered to be our second brain. To have a toxin-free, healthy, and active mind and body, we need to keep the gut clean. Drink at least 2 glasses of warm water in the morning on an empty stomach and do the same at bedtime too. Drinking 1 glass of hot water 2 hours after your food also promotes healthy gut.
4. Follow Eye Douche
There are many salts, preservatives, electronics, pollutants, etc that surround us can weaken the eyesight. Yet, we look after our sense organs only when we face a problem with them. A very simple ayurvedic treatment is to splash your eyes and face with cool or slightly warm water (triphala water is most recommended) 10-15 times a day in the morning and evening.
5. Lubricate Ears
Use the tip of your pinky (little finger) to lubricate the inside of each ear with little bit of sesame or coconut or almond oil. This practice keeps our sense of hearing healthy, prevents stiffness in the neck, prevents ear problems, and makes us feel light and energetic throughout the day.
6. Apply Oil
A simple thought of a massage at an ayurvedic centre is enough to invigorate our whole system. Applying warm oil (sesame oil, coconut oil, almond oil, olive oil, mustard oil or any seasonal oil) all over the body 5-10 mins before bath everyday in the morning will make you feel very invigorated. This habit lubricates and rejuvenates our tissues, promotes healthy circulation in the body, promotes healthy joints and ligaments, gives glowing skin and makes our body flexible.
7. Include Kitchen Herbs
Some of the best doctors are in our kitchen which we are completely ignorant about. To name a few – gooseberry, fenugreek seeds, turmeric, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, sesame seeds, black currants, and dates. Their multi-fold health benefits make them ideal for our lifestyle. Include it as a herbal routine and not as diet. Consume them with warm milk or warm water once a day. (ideal to have it as first or last portion of the day)
8. Eat Khichdi
Nobody wants to go through the pressure of dieting or detox or cleansing, instead, we can make it a routine. Let one of your main meals (breakfast, lunch or dinner) be khichdi made out of moong dal, rice and aromatic herbs which is very healthy and also tasty.
9. Practice Yoga And Meditation
Give equal importance to your mind and soul. The negativity in the mind or body leads only toward digestion issues, which in turn leads to many physical, mental and behavioral disturbances. Yoga and meditation or simply a 15 minutes of quietness (free from people, electronics, clutter) will work the magic.
10. Drink Herbal Tea
A good hot infusion made with ginger, holy basil, pepper, fennel seed powder, mint is the ultimate elixir for our body. Boosted immunity is an added advantage.
At one go, this seems like a lengthy list to follow. So take it slow to imbibe each practice in your life and voila, you will be AYURVEDA-RICH in no time.
