What Are The Home Remedies For Constipation?

Before telling you about the home or natural remedies of constipation, let me first tell you that it refers to bowel movements that are infrequent or hard to pass.

Since, severe constipation includes obstipation, which can progress to bowel obstruction and become life-threatening, the problem should be taken care urgently.

The causes of constipation are of two types: obstructed defecation and colonic slow transit. Obstructed defecation has mechanical and functional causes, while causes of colonic slow transit constipation include diet, hormonal disorders such as hypothyroidism, side effects of medications, and rarely heavy metal toxicity.

Constipation can be treated with changes in dietary habits, laxatives, enemas, biofeedback, and in particular situations surgery as well. Anyway, here are some of the home remedial measures that you can follow if you are suffering from constipation:

Olive Oil

Pure olive oil can help relieve constipation. It stimulates your digestive system. In the morning consume one tablespoon of olive oil. It works best on an empty stomach. You can mix it with a little bit of lemon juice if you like to lighten the flavour.

Molasses

Blackstrap molasses also helps relieve constipation. Consume one teaspoon of blackstrap molasses. Start slow and small and if you don’t like the flavor of molasses, you can add it to a cup of warm water or tea to dilute the taste. If you find that a teaspoon has not been effective, you can go as high as 1-2 tablespoons, but try less at first.

Coffee

Caffeine is a natural stimulant for the digestive system, so indulging in a cup of coffee will help get you up and running in more ways than one. 1-2 cups is fine, but make sure you don’t overdo it-too much can actually have the opposite effect.

Natural Fiber

Consuming fiber-rich food is one of the natural ways to get constipation cured. Natural foods tend to contain a lot of fiber-that magical word that signifies the end of toilet suffrage. Here are some of the fiber-rich foods: beans, apricots, whole grain bread, berries, broccoli, plums, pears, apples, nuts, potatoes (skip the fries though) and more.

Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseed oil is a pretty simple home remedy for constipation. You will need a glass of orange juice with pulp and a tablespoon of flaxseed oil.

Baking soda

Baking soda works incredibly well for because it is a bicarbonate, which will encourage air to come out of you one way or another, and relieve pain from pressure. It also re-alkalizes the stomach, neutralizing the acid a little bit and helping things pass through your gut.

Raisins

They are packed with fiber and act as great natural laxatives.Soak a handful of raisin in water overnight and have them first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

Spinach

This has properties that cleanse, rebuild and renew the intestinal tract. You can have about 100 ml of spinach juice mixed with an equal quantity of water twice daily. This home remedy is the most effective method to cure even the most stubborn cases of constipation.
