Home Remedies For Shingles

Shingles thrives on a higher arginine to lyine ratio in the body. Eat Lysine rich foods: meats, fish, yogurt, cheese, milk, eggs, apples, pears, apricots, avocados, pineapples, green beans, and asparagus. Avoid Arginine rich foods: tomatoes, wheat germ, brussels sprouts, cashews, grapes, pumpkin seeds, pecan, blackberries, blueberries, peanuts, chocolate, and sugar.

Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. It (herpes zoster) is a secondary outbreak of the chicken pox virus. Although, shingles can occur anywhere on your body, most of the times it appears as a single stripe of blisters either on the left or the right side of your torso.

What Causes Shingles?

Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus – the same virus that causes chickenpox. It can happen decades after the original infection. Basically, after you’ve had chickenpox before, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue near your spinal cord and brain. Years later, the virus may reactivate as shingles. When it occurs for the first time, it usually appears in circular patterns.

Is It Lethal?

Shingles isn’t a life-threatening condition. However, it can be very painful. It is usually less severe the second time. Vaccines can help reduce the risk of shingles, while early treatment can help shorten a shingles infection and lessen the chance of complications.

If shingles is treated appropriately, the virus outbreak will be short-lived. Since it is Herpes virus, it can only thrive in a body with a weakened immune system. The herpes family of viruses are particularly effected by a person’s L-arginine to L-lysine ratio. These are natural amino acids that are found inside the human body, but they come from foods. There must be a greater level of arginine in the body for herpes viruses to thrive. Therefore, reducing the level will help a lot.

Capsaicin is a natural compound derived from cayenne or chili pepper, and it can be used topically for pain relief. Lemon Balm

Lemon balm, also known as melissa, contains compounds known as polyphenols that have anti-herpes properties, and is felt by some to be a first- choice herbal treatment. Use topical applications of lemon-balm tea, which you can make by steeping 2 to 4 teaspoons of herb per cup of boiling water.
