Acupuncture is a safe and effective alternative for pain relief.  In the West, acupuncture has been adopted as a great holistic approach with many health benefits.  There is not enough supporting evidence to prove that acupuncture is a secure method for health.  It’s only been passed down as an art from Asian culture.

The craft of acupuncture evolved from eastern medicine over 5,000 years ago.  It involves the use of thin and long needles being pushed into the skin at on certain areas of the body, usually where there is a cluster of nerves or joints.  The tip of the needle is called an acupuncture point.  Apparently, there are acupuncture points peppered all over the body and the needles are designed to hone in on these points to reduce pain or even induce anesthetic elements.  The overall philosophy is to replenish health and quality of life.

The handler of the acupuncture needles is called an Acupuncturist and is normally licensed to use it as a treatment for patients.  The needles that are poked through the skin are fine enough to eliminate pain, and after entering the body the needles increase blood flow.  Acupuncture has been a holistic approach to treat a variety of conditions such as: nausea, lower back and lumbar pain, and headaches.  As the treatment progresses and more needles are applied to the body these pressure points relieve the body of pain and the acupuncturist is able to distribute the needles point of contact to increase blood flow throughout the body.  Many traditional practitioners are still skeptical of the effects that come with acupuncture.

There are several ways that acupuncture works to reduce chronic pain. One is to work through the meridians, and increase certain energy centers in the body. As an example, if someone has chronic pain, we would want to stimulate the kidney centers in the body; kidney meridians. If someone has a specific musculoskeletal pain, let’s say just a spot in the shoulder, we may want to inject just a couple of needles touching each other, and use electro stimulation to reduce inflammation in that area.

Unlike other pain reduction and pain management treatments, acupuncture is fairly non-invasive and non-habit forming.  It requires no prescription medications which may cause dependence if used continuously in high doses.  Unlike surgery, you don’t have to be cut open during the procedure, and bleeding is very minimal.  Not only does it alleviate pain, it also increases the body’s energy level by stimulating the meridian points.  It brings the body into homeostasis and allows people to feel better with very little to no pain at all.
