Hemoglobin is a vital iron-rich protein present in blood cells. It is present in red blood cells and contribute to their colour. It is one the most vital proteins as it carries oxygen to different parts of the body. Deficiency in hemoglobin means that there are not enough helpers to carry oxygen, due to which people feel tired. When hemoglobin levels decrease, you may face fatigue, weakness and shortness of breath. Iron deficiency is known to be the most common cause for a low hemoglobin count, since it is one of the most important elements in hemoglobin production. Here are a few foods that’ll help increase your hemoglobin levels.
Foods That Increase Hemoglobin Level:
Seafood: Varieties of seafood like tuna, clams, oysters, starfish, salmon and sardines are very rich sources of hemoglobin. Include these varieties of seafood in your diet for a healthy hemoglobin count.
Liver: Liver is known to be the powerhouse of iron, and is one of the best ways to boost your hemoglobin levels. 100 gm of chicken liver contains 9 mg of iron. However, beef liver is considered best since it is very rich in iron and has less cholesterol.
Vegetables: Beetroot is the best natural remedy to boost blood count, it has the ability to regenerate iron content and activates red blood cells, supplying fresh oxygen to the blood. Other vegetables that’ll help you scale up your hemoglobin are spinach, green peas, kidney beans, cabbage, sweet potato and broccoli. Add these vegetables to your diet, and stay healthy.
Nuts: All nuts have high iron content in them, but almonds are known to dominate them with the highest iron content. Consume them everyday to increase your hemoglobin level.
Pumpkin Seeds: 100 gm of pumpkin seeds contain 15 mg of iron, which is about 83 percent of the recommended daily value, and hence a rich source of hemoglobin. Pumpkin seeds are also known to have other health benefits like lowering cholesterol.
Strawberries: Strawberries contain iron and are also known to help in the absorption of iron. Being a rich source of vitamin C, it helps in the absorption of iron in the blood.
Dark Chocolate: For all chocolate lovers, here’s good news for you. 100 gm of dark chocolate is known to contain 17 mg of iron. Make sure the chocolate you consume is atleast 80 percent dark chocolate, to increase your hemoglobin count.
