Scientists from USC have found that fasting, for as little as 3 days, could regenerate almost the entire immune system. Fasting “flips a regenerative switch” signalling stem cells to create brand new white blood cells. When we starve, our body, in its attempt to conserve energy, recycles damaged immune cells, damaged either by chemotherapy in cancer patients or aging.

The Telegraph recently carried an article about the research findings of scientists from the University of Southern California (USC) on the remarkable benefits of fasting. They found that fasting, for as little as three days, could regenerate almost the entire immune system. This could be a boon to people suffering from damaged immune systems, such as cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and aged people.
Fasting “flips a regenerative switch” signalling stem cells to create brand new white blood cells, essentially regenerating the entire immune system. Scientists believe that when we starve, our body, in its attempt to conserve energy, recycles a lot of the unused and damaged immune cells.
With a system heavily damaged by chemotherapy or aging, fasting cycles can generate, literally, a new immune system.
