The holidays are over, the kids are going stir-crazy, and it seems that birthday parties are making news. With it being cold and flu season, we should try and reduce sugar as much as possible to help build up their immunity. Also, being a dessert lover myself, I make it a mission to try and replace harmful unhealthy ingredients with nourishing ingredients to make desserts healthy.

This is the inspiration behind this amazingly healthy chocolate frosting. The main ingredient in this frosting, believe it or not, is avocado. When it is whipped, it makes the perfect base as its consistency is like that of butter cream, but with healthy fat instead!

Benefits of Avocado:

For starters, avocados are considered a superfood because its nutrient-rich dense composition, compared to the number of calories it contains, is enormous. Other benefits:

Avocados contain 35% more potassium than a banana
-More fiber than any other food so it will have you feeling full fast
-Oleic acid which improves the cardiovascular system
-Folic acid to support homocysteine levels
Antioxidants
-Lutein to protect from age-related eye degeneration
-Omega-3 fatty acids

Needless to say avocados are a food we should try to incorporate in our diet as often as we can; even in the form of frosting!

Here’s a recipe for the healthiest chocolate frosting that’s sure to impress:

Recipe For Healthy Chocolate Frosting:

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/4 cup raw local honey
  • 1/3 cup raw cacao powder
  • 4 Medjool dates (found in the produce section)

Directions:

Place dates in the blender first with the raw, local honey. Pulse until smooth. Then add avocado. Process until smooth. Finish with the raw cacao and blend until well incorporated and has a frosting-like consistency. Frost as normal! Firms up great in the refrigerator and can last up to one week.
