Green Tea Lowers Blood Pressure Naturally
Green Tea is already popular for its properties that keep the heart healthy but off late it has also been researched quite a bit to see if it can reduce the blood pressure as well. However, the in-depth arguments as to whether it can do that or not is still ongoing but the latest research concludes that drinking Green Tea or high quality tea intake can significantly improve blood pressure.
To come up to the conclusion as such, researchers analyzed 25 randomized controlled trials to explore the details. They found that in the short term, tea didn’t seem to make a difference for blood pressure. But long-term tea intake did have a significant impact. After 12 weeks of drinking tea, blood pressure was lower by 2.6 mmHg systolic and 2.2 mmHg diastolic. Green tea had the most significant results, while black tea performed the next best.
Although, the researchers couldn’t determine the exact quantity of tea to be drank to receive such benefits, a number of previous studies have suggested the ideal amount lies around three to four cups of tea per day. However, according to the new study of Chinese tea drinkers, drinking as little as a half-cup of green or oolong tea per day may lower the risk of high blood pressure by nearly 50%.
Researchers say that the green tea contains flavonoids that promote heart health and even lower blood pressure. A major cause of hypertension (high blood pressure) is an enzyme secreted by the kidneys called angiotension-converting enzyme (ACE). Most of the popular drugs for hypertension act as ACE inhibitors as they block the effects of ACE and thereby reduce the blood pressure. Green tea is a natural ACE inhibitor, and several medical studies show lowered blood pressure in animals and humans given green tea extracts.
