In combination with carrier oils, apply high quality, pure essential oils as natural topical analgesics. Peppermint cools and relaxes sore muscles, while wintergreen warms the skin and numbs the affected area. Basil and thyme help ease aches, too. Stir up a concoction of peppermint, basil, wintergreen, and other oils (Tension Blend) to cumulatively palliate sore muscles.

Pain is something everyone can relate to. We’ve all suffered headaches, cramps, and the normal aches and pains that are part of life. If you play sports or lead an active lifestyle then you’ve got the added sports-related muscle aches, soreness, inflammation, and joint pain.

Often times our pain gets in the way of life. When my son has a migraine, he likes to be left alone in a dark, quiet room until his pain subsides. Life gets put on hold until he feels better. When the pain from my arthritis in my knees acts up, I don’t feel like doing anything. It’s so uncomfortable that I don’t want to move most of the time.

When we’re going through these situations, I reach for my essential oils. They’re all natural and my first choice to help us feel better.

Go-to Essential Oils For Pain Relief

Peppermint

Cooling and calming when applied topically to sore muscles. Peppermint is a natural painkiller and muscle relaxant. Dilute with a carrier oil before application to avoid any skin sensitivity.

Basil

Helps reduce feelings of tension. Basil’s analgesic properties provides relief from pain. May also help us gals ease monthly discomfort. Dilute with a carrier oil and apply topically to desired area.

Thyme

Relaxes the body and works well on joint and muscle pain. Dilute with a carrier oil and apply topically to desired area.

Wintergreen

Acts as a natural analgesic and has a warming effect when applied on the skin. Once applied topically, it gets absorbed quickly and acts like a natural numbing agent. Dilute with a carrier oil and apply to desired area.

Tension Blend

A blend containing wintergreen, peppermint, basil and a few others that may be applied topically to promote feelings of relaxation. We like to use this one on the back of the neck or temples (avoid getting in eyes) to ease tension. It also works great on sore, achy muscles.

You can use one essential oil or a combination, find what works best for your body and pain. One combination we like is 1-2 drops each of the Soothing Blend, Basil, and Thyme essential oils mixed with equal parts carrier oil and applied topically.

When you apply essential oils topically, they are absorbed directly into your body and start working. Essential oils are great tools to help you along your journey to improved health and wellness.

Always choose high quality, pure essential oils for their therapeutic benefits. Be careful not to get essential oils in your eyes, ears, or other sensitive areas.
