Essential Oils For Digestive Health

Peppermint and ginger have been extensively studied for their efficacy against irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gut inflammation, and spasms of the colon and intestinal tract. Fennel and wild orange essential oils can help you get rid of constipation, gas, and bloating. To use, mix with a carrier oil (1:1 ratio) and apply topically to abdomen or bottom of your feet.

Our digestive system takes a toll with the quality of food that we eat. With the rising number of packaged/processed food, fast food, and GMOs it’s vital that we make some proper changes to help keep our bodies function properly.

The major portion of our immune system is in the gut, keeping the gut healthy will make us healthier and suffer lesser bouts of illness.

6 Important Essential Oils For Digestive Health

1. Peppermint Essential Oil

It contains compounds that help reduce spasms of the colon and intestinal tract. It also contains thymol and eugenol which helps balance oral and intestinal flora reducing fermentation of undigested food.

You can combine with a carrier oil using a 1:1 ratio and apply topically to your stomach.

2. Fennel Essential Oil

This oil helps ease digestive challenges and indigestion. It also has a relaxing effect on the muscles in your intestines, which helps ease spasms. Fennel essential oil also helps to relieve constipation along with problems of gas and bloating.

Combine with a carrier oil and apply topically to your stomach or bottom of your feet.

3. Ginger Essential Oil

It eases indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, spasms, stomach aches, promotes strong immune system, and reduces inflammation. Ginger oil relaxes the muscle in your gut, thus helping food move through your system.

To use, mix with a carrier oil and apply topically over abdomen or add a couple drops to your bath water.

4. Wild Orange Essential Oil

It helps promote better digestion, and eases cramps and constipation.

Combine with a carrier oil and apply topically to your abdomen. Use with caution as wild orange essential oil is photosensitive. It’s best to avoid direct sunlight or UV rays for 12 hours after topical application.

5. Digestion Blend Essential Oil

This aids in digestion, soothes occasional stomach upset, and helps reduce bloating, gas and occasional indigestion. This blend contains ginger rhizome/root, peppermint plant, caraway seed, coriander seed, anise seed, tarragon plant and fennel seed essential oils.

To use, mix with a carrier oil and apply to abdomen.

6. Detoxification Blend Essential Oil

It supports filtering functions of the liver, kidneys, colon, lungs, and skin. This blend contains rosemary leaf, cilantro herb, juniper berry, tangerine peel and geranium plant essential oils.

Combine with a carrier oil and apply topically to abdomen or bottom of your feet.

Caution: An important note to keep in mind is that not all essential oils are same. When using them to help you feel better, always choose high quality therapeutic grade essential oils.
