“Balanced doshas (Vata, pitta, kapha), balanced agni (metabolism), properly formed dhatus (body tissues), proper elimination of malas(waste matter), and blissful state of mind, body and soul define a healthy person”

We come across the term “healthy” on daily basis. But generally there is no clarification about the definition of good health. Every magazine, doctor or individual has their own opinion as what “healthy” means. However, I find that the above given famous shloka by Acharya Sushruta holistically defines the good health in terms of Ayurveda. Now, the bigger and more important question that arises is “How do we attain this healthy state by making small changes in our day to day life?” In ayurveda, the daily routine one follows is often called as ‘dinacharya‘.

We need some small corrections in our lifestyle which will go a long way to reach our goal of attaining good health.

1. Start with Desserts: Conventionally we have desserts after we are full! This habit is a root cause to many digestive troubles which manifests into other diseases in long term. So instead of avoiding desserts let’s start our meals with desserts and then move on to eat food. This way we won’t need to wait till the end for the best part!

2. Better Digestion: Chew 1/4th sesame seeds every morning before breakfast. This should be done for 21 days. Doing this will helps to maintain oral health, benefit all the sense organs, aid in digestion and keep all joints mobile.

3. Drink Boiled Warm Water: Drinking few glasses of warm water in the morning (empty stomach) and bedtime will help to improve digestive fire, flush out toxins from our body, and cleanse our digestive and circulatory system.

Sipping this warm water at regular intervals throughout the day will enhance all the above benefits. Important point to be kept in mind is not drinking water for at least 1.5 hours after meals.

4. Better Nutrition: Betel leaf (if available)+ dried ginger powder+ fennel seeds+ flax seeds+ dried coriander powder+ honey should be taken after meals. This aids the digestion of heavy food which we consume. If whatever we eat can get digested properly, obesity, cholesterol problems, gastric troubles and many more health troubles can be avoided. Also, good digestion means good nutrition. And good nourishment means huge benefits such as:

  • Better immunity
  • Better energy levels
  • Better metabolism
  • Better state of mind

These little habits go a long way in helping us to maintain our good health. So let’s try it and stay healthy.
