Cool Cucumber Watermelon Refresher.

I can’t believe I haven’t posted a green smoothie recipe yet. I drink them nearly everyday, talk about them all the time and have experienced such amazing benefits from drinking them.

Before I got onto the green smoothie band wagon, my breakfasts were processed cereals, yogurt, eggs, or oatmeal. There was very little fruit, veggies, or super foods starting out my day. It was no wonder that my energy levels weren’t as high as they should have been and I felt drained by the time lunch came around. I was literally sucking the energy from my body before I even had the time to get going.

Although I still do have the occasional bowl of gluten-free oatmeal these days, I make sure to mix in foods that up the health factor, such as fresh fruit, chia seeds, hemp seeds, and cinnamon. As an alternative, I also make quinoa for breakfast as well. For the most part, however, green smoothies are my go-to breakfast of choice. And I feel the most amazing when I have them. Full of greens, vegetables, fruit and super foods like chia seeds, flax seeds, maca powder and hemp protein powder, I feel good to go in the morning without being weighed down. No sugar crashes, no energy slumps…just good, pure energy. When you start your day with nutrient dense foods, your body gets the proper fuel it needs after a night of fasting. Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day and when you start off smart, you’ll make smarter choices throughout the day. One might think that having green smoothies all the time can get boring, but that’s not the case at all. I love to change up the ingredients and flavors seasonally (or daily if I’m really determined.)

Summer is my absolute favorite season and the fruit during this time of year is amazing! Watermelon, berries, pineapple, mangos! These fruits taste deliciously sweet and I love experimenting with them to create different refreshing smoothies. Just recently I decided to give watermelon a whirl and am I glad that I did. This smoothie is extremely hydrating and great for your skin and digestive system. So if you haven’t already given green smoothies a try, get crazy and go for it!
