What’s the first thing you do in the morning, before you even get out of bed?

I stretch out when I wake up and don’t get out of bed until I can clearly picture one thing I want to make : for the day, the week, the year, or the decade. I love having a vision that’s exciting. Sometimes it pops into my head, and other times I have to sort of explore and create it.

Once you’re up and moving, what does your morning routine look like? Are there certain things you make sure you do, no matter what?

No matter what, my morning routine involves Buddhist chanting (my spiritual practice sets the pace for the day), green tea, and a journal to free write.

Tell us about breakfast. What’s your go-to meal?

It depends on the season. 🙂 I eat piles of fresh fruit when it’s super hot in the summers, I move toward more smoothies in the fall that are more substantial with coconut or nut milks and greens and bananas, and in the winter I love homemade paleo granolas, omlettes, or roasted veggies. Eating seasonally is a big part of staying in sync for me, even in Southern California where the seasons aren’t as drastic. 🙂Dana-Claudat2

Is there any game-changing advice you’ve received about how to make your morning more productive or happy? Share it with our readers.

Preparing the day before for the day ahead really makes a big difference. I spend a few minutes at night going over what I need to do the following day and gathering thoughts and ideas in advance for things that are bigger. I don’t like the idea of bringing stress to sleep, so I make sure I reconcile a plan before I’m done with my day. It’s been really helpful, especially with a business that’s online which can be 24/7 if I let it be!
