I don’t focus much on supplements because I prefer to get my nutrients from whole foods, but for the past few months I have been hearing a lot about the mineral magnesium and how it is an antidote for stress. I’m not particularly more stressed than usual, but I’ve always struggled with anxiety before bed so I thought I would look into this “relaxation mineral”. While researching, I was surprised to find so many benefits of magnesium and what it can do to the body. I’ve been adding more magnesium rich foods into my diet and started taking a supplement a month ago and I can already feel a difference.

Why is magnesium necessary for the body?

Magnesium helps maintain muscles, nerves, and bones, and studies have shown that a diet rich in magnesium can help protect against risk factors that can lead to diabetes and heart disease.

Benefits of magnesium:

– Helps optimize the use of oxygen in the body in order to burn calories.

– Brings balance and controls stress hormones.

– Relaxes the nervous system.

– Loosens tight muscles and prevents cramps.

– Alkalizes the body.

– Helps to relieve constipation.

– Hydrates the body.

Foods rich in magnesium:

– Whole grains

Spinach

Pumpkin seeds

Nuts

– Raisins

– Beef

Broccoli.
