Ayurvedic treatment for kidney stones include dietary changes and also the use of diuretic and stone-dissolving herbs in acute cases. The system is then cleaned and strengthened using toning and rejuvenating preparations. The approach includes:

1. Diet and Nutrition

You can prevent kidney stones by making changes in your fluid intake. Also depending on the type of kidney stone, limiting consumption of sodium, animal protein, calcium, and oxalate rich foods will prevent stone formation.

2. Panchakarma Therapy

Panchakarma therapy is a very effective means of cleansing the body internally in order to help it regain its strength. It also helps in relieving kidney stones.

3. Banana Stem

The juice extracted from the stem of banana plant is an excellent remedy for kidney stones, as it is rich in fiber and diuretic properties. Consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to decide the right dosage for your specific case. Generally, it is advised to consume 10 ml juice along with 1 gram cardamom seeds, twice a day, on an empty stomach or 10 minutes before food.

4. Figs

Figs can work wonders in the treatment of kidney stones. Boil two figs in a cup of water for 15-20 minutes and drink it on an empty stomach early in the morning.

5. Basil Leaves (Tulsi)

Basil leaves are good for the overall health of the kidneys. Mix 1 teaspoon of juice from basil leaves with 1 teaspoon of honey and have it daily in the morning. You can also chew two to three basil leaves. It helps in the easy expulsion of stones through the urinary tract.

6. Tomato Juice

Drink a glass of tomato juice with a pinch of salt and pepper every morning. This helps dissolve the mineral salt deposits in the kidneys.

7. Drink Water

Drinking plenty of water daily will produce clear urine each time you urinate. This will eventually help the kidney stones to break down or dissolve. Health care providers recommend that a person drink 2 to 3 liters of fluid a day. People with cystine stones may need to drink even more.

8. Lemon Juice

Lemon juice contains citric acid that helps break down calcium-based kidney stones. Drink two to three glass of lemon juice daily. This will help increase the volume of urination, which benefits people affected by kidney stones.1
