Every time you get that sick nauseating feeling don’t rush for the medicines. Instead dig into your herb store to get instant relief from not just the feeling but also soothing the root cause. Though there are many foods that can help your body deal with nausea and its symptoms yet we chose six natural remedies that are easy to prepare and quick to provide relief:
Ginger root tea:
Ideally you should use fresh ginger root for this purpose. All you have to do is to rind it and grind it to tiny pieces and simmer it in boiling water for fifteen minutes. Filter this infusion and add a few drops of lemon juice to it and drink it warm. In order to achieve the full benefits of ginger root tea, three to five cups need to be drunk during the day.
Wondering why Ginger works everytime? It has to do with the existence of gingerols and shogaols in ginger root which:
- Counterbalance acids in the stomach
- Calm down the intestinal tract thereby mitigating nausea and vomiting
- Boost the oozing of digestive juices.
- Provide comfort due to its tangy pungent flavour.
Foods rich in fiber:
Some examples of fiber rich foods which are good for mitigating the nauseous feeling are apples (especially the sour ones), bananas, grapes, uncooked (blanched) vegetables etc.
Ice cubes or frozen bars comprising juice of apple/ grape/orange/lemon/pears also serve as great remedies for nausea. All the aforesaid foods hold a rich content of water in addition to being highly fibrous; hence function against nausea by putting a stop to dehydration and constipation both of which provoke nausea. Additionally these fiber rich foods remove nausea generating chemicals from your body. Amongst these, bananas hold quite an amount of potassium which is mislaid during nauseous symptoms hence bananas alleviates nausea over and over again. But be careful not to let the patient take big banana bites hurriedly.
Nuts such as peanuts, walnuts, almonds, cashew nuts etc. are loaded with protein. Nausea is triggered due to a deficiency of protein hence munching on these will replenish your protein sources preventing further bouts.
Pepper mint tea:
Menthol -the core component of peppermint, helps to relieve nausea especially associated with motion sickness (also called travel sickness) when consumed in the form of peppermint tea.
The sedating components present in mint, function to lessen nausea by reducing the retching by the stomach. Mint tea can be prepared by putting 8-10 mint leaves in 500 ml of boiling water. It should be allowed to steep for half an hour, moving up and down intermittently; filter and enjoy the refreshing flavor.
Drinking a tiny quantity of water at the onset of nauseating feelings will help reduce the vomiting sensation. Water works to hydrate your body instantly and preventing dehydration to drive the reeling sensation of dizziness as well as vomiting. The moment you start taking sips of water or suck ice cubes you will start feeling better.
Word Of Caution:
If symptoms persist then it might be due to a typical concoction of physiological and environmental factors. Stop acting Doctor and seek medical advice if the symptoms of nausea do not improve within 24 hours.
