Elbow Plank Toe Tap: Get into the plank position. Contract your abs and raise one foot off the floor and tap to the side. Alternate and do 3 sets of 20 reps with 1 min breaks. Mountain Climbers: Get into a push-up position with core tight. Bring your right knee up to the chest and keep the toes off the ground. Jump up and switch your feet in the air. Do for 45 secs.

Try these three unexpected moves for incredibly toned abs! Are you ready for strong, sexy and incredibly toned abs? Awesome! All you need is your own bodyweight, your commitment to get this training routine going and some groovy workout music. The good news, you don’t need to spend hours at the gym to tone your body – on the contrary.

As most of my clients are short on time, my focus always lies on time efficiency and to get the most out of each single move. That’s the reason why compound exercises are the way to go, because they sculpt more than one body part at the same time.

Try these three multi-tasking exercises to double your results:

1. Elbow Plank Toe Tap

The elbow plank toe tap exercise is without a doubt one of the most effective ways to train your core. It’s not only targeting your abs, but your obliques, shoulders and back as well.

Here’s how to do it:

-Lie with your face down on the floor, push yourself off onto your toes and mainly rest on your elbows.
-Contract your abdominals and always look down at the floor. Raise one foot off the floor and tap to the side.
-Perform the same movement with the other foot.
-Do them for 3 sets of 20 reps with 1 minute rest in between.

Modification: If this is too challenging to begin with, hold the plank position for 10 seconds and work yourself up to 60 seconds.

2. Superwoman

This is one of my all-time favorite whole body moves. It especially strenghtens your core and targets your shoulders, tighs and back as well. It simultaneously works on your flexibility and strength, as well as mobility.

Here’s how to do it:

-Start in a push-up position with your hands under your shoulders and your feet shoulder width apart. Simultaneously lift your right arm and left foot off the ground and hold for five seconds.
-Look down at the floor, engage your core and focus on your breath. Switch sides and repeat.
-Perform 3 sets of 10 reps with 1 minute rest in between.

Modification: Instead of lifting one arm and leg at the same time, start with only lifting one arm, hold for five seconds and repeat with the other arm.

3. Mountain climbers

As they’re always part of their training routines, my clients feel like they’d climbed the Mt. Everest several times already. Seriously, mountain climbers are simply amazing. They help you burn calories even for hours after you’ve finished your workout and benefit your cardiovascular and muscular fitness by increasing flexibility, blood circulation and strength.

Here’s how to do it:

-Start in a push-up position with your wrists under you shoulders. Keep your core tight and your back flat.
-Bring your right knee up to the chest and keep the toes off the ground. Jump up and switch your feet in the air.
-Continue as quickly as possible for 45 seconds.
-Do this 3 times with 1 minute rest in between.
